The Right (And Wrong) Way to Spend $1 Trillion Washington, DC January 30, 2009 - Millennium Institute (MI) was represented on the panel of experts that participated in a presentation and discussion of "Steel Wheel Interstate" a proposal by Phillip Longman, Senior Fellow and Research Director of New America Foundation's Next Social Contract Initiative.The event took place on January 30, 2009, and examined proposals to make driving safer and more pleasant, reduce highway repair costs, mitigate the need to build or expand Interstates, dramatically improve energy use, and cut carbon emissions, among other environmental benefits. MI was represented by Andrea Bassi, Deputy Director for Project Development and Modeling, who presented a study “Evaluating the Creation of a Parallel Non-Oil Transportation System in an Oil Constrained Future” co-authored with Mr. Alan Drake and referenced in Mr. Longman’s proposal and article for the Washington Monthly.
